M I N U T E S
The Organizational meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo County School Corporation was held at the Administration Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana on the 12th day of January 2009 at 7:00 P.M.
The following Board Members were in attendance: Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Gene Shike,
Mrs. Jackie lower, Dr. Joseph Minnis, Mr. Paul Lockhart, and Ms. Alpa Patel.
Pledge of Allegiance
Attorney Frederick Bauer led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Organization of the Board
Designation of Temporary Chairperson
Mrs. Lower stated that she would serve as Temporary Chairperson until the President is elected.
Election of President
Mrs. Lower nominated Dr. Joseph Minnis for President. Mr. Shike seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Election of Vice President
Mr. Burks nominated Mr. Paul Lockhart for Vice President. Ms. Patel seconded the motion. The emotion passed unanimously
Election of Secretary
Mr. Burks nominated Ms. Alpa Patel for Secretary. Mrs. Lower seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Election of Deputy Secretary
Mrs. Lower nominated Mr. Guille Cox for Deputy Secretary. Mr. Shike seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Appointment of the I.S.B.A. legislative Liaison Member
Ms. Patel stated that she would represent the Board as the
Indiana School Boards Association legislative liaison member.
Election of Board of Finance Officers for 2009, and Revenue from
Investments
Mr. Burks moved for approval of the Board of Finance officers for 2009. The Board reviewed the corporation investment policy and 2008 interest earnings. Mrs. Lower seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Appointment of Vigo County School Corporation Treasurer and Deputy
Treasurer
Mr. Tanoos stated, with Board approval, that he would like to recommend Mrs. Donna Wilson as Treasurer and Mr. Robert Karr as Deputy Treasurer of the Vigo County School Corporation. Board Members unanimously agreed with the recommendation.
Appointment of Board Member to Attend Meetings
of the
Parent Advisory Council
Ms. Patel volunteered to serve as the Board representative to attend meetings of the Parent Advisory Council.
Appointment of Board Members to Attend Meetings of the
Superintendent’s Advisory Council
Mr. Burks and Mrs. Lower volunteered to serve as Board representatives to attend meetings of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council.
Appointment of Board Member to Attend Meetings of the
Superintendent’s Unity Team
Mr. Lockhart volunteered to serve as the Board representative to attend meetings of the Superintendent’s Unity Team.
Appointment of Board Member to Attend Meetings of the Board of
Directors
for the Vigo County Education Foundation, Inc.
Dr. Minnis volunteered to serve as the Board representative to attend meetings of the Board of Directors for the Vigo County Education Foundation, Inc.
Appointment of Board Members to Attend Meetings of the
Vocational Advisory Council
Mr. Lockhart, Mrs. Lower, and Mr. Shike volunteered to serve as Board representatives to attend meetings of the Vocational Advisory Council.

Mrs. Wilson presented the propose Calendar of Board meeting Dates for 2009. (See proceedings)
Mr. Burks moved for approval. Mr. Lockhart seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
