Welcome to the web link for mathematics, science and assessment for the Vigo County School Corporation. Our office deals with any curricular issues that involve the areas of math and/or science in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. We also coordinate any corporation testing that takes place.

Our corporation adopted math materials for use starting in the school year 2004/05. These sources will be used for a total of six years. During the summer of 2004, a team of teachers from every grade level or secondary course gathered to align text content with state standards. Every teacher in the corporation with a math assignment received that information in a curriculum guide during the first year of implementation.

Science materials were adopted for use starting with the 2005/06 school year. The process followed that of mathematics and our teachers with a science teaching assignment have a course syllabus to follow which maps lessons with state standards.

Our major assessments are the ISTEP+ and Terra Nova. ISTEP+ is administered in grade 3 – 9 for English/Language Arts and math. The Graduation Qualifying Exam also tests English/Language Arts and math and is given for the first time in grade 10. The test can be taken twice during the junior year and twice during the senior year if a student does not pass one portion or the other. Science is also tested at grades 5 and 7. We administer the Terra Nova test at grades 2, 3, 6 and 8 and the areas tested are English/Language Arts and math. We have several other assessments and they are primarily administered in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
